Letter: We have religion to thank for Trump, GOP

The majority of the people in the United States did not want Trump as president. This is a fact. It is also true that the majority of the people do not support what the Republican-controlled Congress is doing regarding health care, climate change, taxes, gun control, immigration, regulation and a host of other important issues. In short, the will of the people is being thwarted by an unwanted president and his Republican minions.

How did this happen? The causes of this tragedy are numerous, and they include voter apathy, voter gullibility, the electoral college, Fox News propaganda, Russian interference, manipulation by the rich and powerful, gerrymandering, science illiteracy, and most of all, religion. Religion has always been the main enemy of freedom and democracy, and the religious vote swept Trump and Republicans into power. Most churches, especially in the South, promote Republicans because Democrats support science, free thought, free choice, and people of various sexual orientations.

So, what are we, the majority, going to do about the right-wing minority that has taken control of our country, our welfare, and our future? What say you?
