Letter: Being right is all that matters, even when you’re wrong

Now that the Christmas and other holidays seasons are upon us, it’s time to participate in the age old tradition of arguing with family members.

Now, while people may have different views than you, it’s important to remember that you, specifically, are always correct and are never wrong. So what if people bring data and evidence to their arguments, or new information that you didn’t know about previously? Since you, and only you, are correct, it’s important to ignore any evidence that goes against what you personally believe.

Some people think that it’s helpful to consider the perspective of other people, but that’s silly because you have the only perspective that matters: the correct one. Note: In the rare, rare case where you realize that you’re wrong, just pretend that you were right the entire time. Being right is all that matters, even above making meaningful connections with other human beings or intellectual discussion.
