Letter: Strip club degrades women, our community

I am writing from concern for the strip club business application under consideration by the Kennewick City Council.

This business has no place in our community.

My understanding was that the area proposed for the business is to be a wine tourist destination. One can hardly imagine a crowd less inclined to want to see a strip club in the vicinity.

People who travel to wineries are usually of higher sensibilities. It would be shooting the city’s plan for development of the area in it’s proverbial foot to approve this business application.

Of greater concern to me, however, is the simple disrespect and disregard for the woman engendered in a strip club. Naked young women being ogled simply for entertainment epitomizes objectification.

Lately, we are bombarded with reports of the harassment and assault of young girls and women by men who should know better.

Will approving this business license application elevate our community to a higher standard?

As a third-generation resident of Kennewick, I trust that you men (all) on city council will act in the interest of what is good and right for us all.

Linda K. Gragg, Kennewick
