Letter: We all leave a carbon footprint, and we can all help
We are all polluters.
Even bicycle-commuting, recycling, cloth-grocery-bag-toting activists have a carbon imprint if they fly to Washington, D.C., to lobby Congress.
In our day-to-day lives, we enjoy the conveniences of cheap gas, plastic bags and Amazon Prime. We have more immediate worries than global warming and federal tax deficits; we are just trying to get by.
Every one of us is accountable for our carbon imprint. Not guilty, just accountable.
It’s our responsibility to acknowledge the impact that our use of fossil fuels has on the climate and to work toward ways to minimize the damage.
The whole world looks toward our great nation as an example.
The proposed carbon dividend is a way to acknowledge the cost of fossil fuels by putting a price on them. The effect of the cost will promote alternative advances. The dividend then redistributes that dollar to the pockets of everyone equally. It can also be spent alleviating the financial burden to society that global warming creates.
