Letter: Big thanks for helping historical society
On Nov. 2, the Franklin County Historical Society and Museum became the beneficiaries of two classic examples of community outreach and community partnerships.
Our Franklin County Museum, the former Pasco Carnegie Library built in 1911, has long had need for additional storage for artifacts and vintage textiles (clothing, linens, uniforms) that were generously donated and have lasting historical value. A necessary prerequisite is that the storage area must have climate control.
Due to the farsightedness of the City of Pasco in planning the new Police Community Services Building, extra space was built into the basement. We’ve entered into a short-term agreement to utilize this space until needed by the city, allowing trustees of the historical society the time to assess and plan a more permanent solution.
Employees of another community partner, Crop Production Services, annually provide a day of community service, and we were the grateful recipients of a half-day of time and labor of eight volunteers and covered haulers to make our move.
The Board of Trustees is very appreciative of these valuable community resources and partners. Thank you.
Anne Hayden-Ray, Secretary, FCHS Board of Trustees, Pasco
