Letter: Lasting change comes from heart
People are still trying to shift blame onto material objects that they find don’t suit their particular sensibilities.
Dallas Barnes’ Nov. 19 letter (We should all take a knee until justice is for all) doesn’t address the central core of the problem.
Take away the material things — anthem, flag, statues and pictures or anything else people find offensive — and what do you have left? The same thing.
Rewriting history changes nothing either. If you’re going to blame anything, then deal with the core issue: the hearts of men.
If you want to change anything, change an attitude, a mind, a heart. Deleting the material realm, taking a knee or making demands on people changes nothing.
Until those changes are made, the problem remains even after everything else has been destroyed.
You can’t change the past, and our heritage that is America — right or wrong — after all else is gone, will still be here.
Our anthem will still be sung. Our flag shall yet wave. Our pledge will be said and America, the greatest nation on Earth, will still be home to the free, the proud and the brave.
May God bless America, now and evermore.
Benjamin Cook, Kennewick
