Letter: Football team shows unity with gear

As a senior athlete involved in our school’s football program, I am involved in the decision making of our team.

Regarding our gear selection, we decided as a team to do something that has never been done before: We chose to place an American flag sticker that went from the front of the helmet all the way to the back.

We didn’t decide to do this because of the way the flag sticker looked on our helmet or just because it looked cool.

We did this to represent unity in a currently divided nation.

The presidential election, racism, and disagreement between Americans — we decided as a team we weren’t going to let these divisions into our town.

We went to the extent of carrying miniature American Flags as we were introduced on that Friday night game.

It was more than just a game of football, it was a representation of unity.

We prevailed that game as the final score was 34-14. I am proud of my team for standing up the way we did.
