Letter: Republican tax plan? Bah, humbug!
Nice juxtaposition Nov. 14 on your opinion page. The essay by Rep. Newhouse (After 30 years, it’s time to simplify federal income tax code) hits all the usual talking points on the Republican tax bill by telling people it’s the greatest thing since Nutella. He states pro-growth, pro-family, pro-taxpayer, etc., as if the GOP were the embodiment of Santa Claus. And while I give him some credit by writing that the U.S. tax code needs revision, this latest film-flam (think Ronald Reagan) of the workers for the 1 percent isn’t it.
The lion’s share of the GOP tax plan benefits the wealthy of America, “bigly.”
Better to lift your eyes up to the letter by Jack Edwards of Richland; he gets it right: “... almost all of the tax cuts will go to the top 1 percent.”
But wait! On page 7A, “Trump wants a deeper tax cut for the wealthy”! Mr. Newhouse, you and your fellow Republicans look more like the bean counter from “A Christmas Carol.” It’s Ebenezer, by the way, in case you’re not familiar with the story.
