Letter: Murray’s attempt at health care worth another look

More than half of those at the poverty level in our community are married, have families, are employed, pay taxes and can’t afford health care. The Affordable Care Act gave our neighbors access to affordable health care. On Oct. 17, Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler reluctantly allowed health insurers to charge higher premiums for 2018. These insurance rates will rise 9 to 27 percent!

Senator Patty Murray co-sponsored a bipartisan bill that would help bridge the financial chasm of rising health insurance costs for families that are already stretched too thin trying to make ends meet. Politics aside, what happens in the other Washington affects our neighbors here. Until a well-planned alternative to the ACA is presented, it’s important we continue to support health care funding initiatives similar to Sen. Murray’s bi-partisan bill.

We can’t afford to put the health of our community at risk.
