Letter: The Link was bound to fail
I read your article this morning in the paper (The Link failure may put Toyota Center future on thin ice, Nov. 9). Here we go with the sob stories.
If you want to know why the proposal did not pass, ask those who objected (i,e, Mr. Trumbo, Mr. Epperly and others, including yours truly).
First, why should Kennewick pay for another ice rink when the junior hockey players come from all over? What are the number of participants, and by percentage how many are Kennewick players? How does this compare to soccer and baseball or softball?
Second, The Link proposal is second rate. Really? Mobile seating? The community deserves better and may support a better proposal. Expand the Convention Center and more parking? Why, when we can’t support the maintenance, etc., of what we have now?
I am sorry the supporters now come with the Chicken Little “sky is falling” arguments. How about reallocating funds to take care of what should have been budgeted in the beginning? I think rather than adding taxes, the city should be forced to work with what it has and re-prioritize its spending. If it can’t do that, resign and appoint/elect better managers.
Craig Liebler, Kennewick
