Letter: Clinton, Uranium One deal a Republican smokescreen

Let’s get something straight about the Uranium One deal:

1. The State Department was one of nine members of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) that had to sign off on this deal. The deal was approved unanimously.

2. The State Department approval came from an assistant secretary, not Hillary Clinton. Clinton would not even have known about the deal unless there had been disagreement among committee members.

3. Russia was not allowed to export any uranium from the U.S. under the deal.

4. Contributions to the Clinton Foundation were made by an owner who sold his shares of Uranium One long before Clinton became Secretary of State.

Trump’s buddy, Rep. Devin Nunes, who leaked classified Intelligence Committee information on the Trump-Russia investigation to the White House, launched this investigation into Uranium One, and still another investigation into Clinton’s emails. These new investigations are nothing more than an insidious, taxpayer-funded distraction from the real investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia.

After squandering tens of millions of dollars on this partisan persecution, it’s time for Republicans to get their hands out of our pockets and give up their obsession with Hillary Clinton.
