Letter: NFL players should protest on their own time

If NFL players want to disrespect our flag, our country and our veterans by taking a knee, I guess that is their choice. By choosing to do so they should not be surprised by the response from the American people. I know several people who have been lifelong football fans who no longer watch because of this.

Football is a game and it is also big business. If the owners don't like what players are doing, they should have the right to force the players to obey team rules while on the field or team functions.

The players have the right to do whatever they want on their own time. Donating time and money to their cause would be a constructive way to help. Taking a knee doesn't change anything except make fans mad. The owners should have the right to release or fine players who continue with this un-American behavior. After all, this is happening on game day, on the field. I still watch football but am very disappointed that the NFL hasn't gotten this situation under control!

Millions of Americans watch football and deserve more from the players.
