Letter: Leave politics out of the play, if you please

This weekend I attended The Addams Family, a musical from the Mid-Columbia Musical Theatre. The play was great! The actors were great, the music superb, the choreography above average for sure. Overall “grade A” production. And as the left can never miss an opportunity to bash the right in the arts, it had that too.

Several snide scenes: Gomez, the father, upset that his daughter is falling in love. “A swing state!” Gomez exclaims, as he is flabbergasted that Wednesday would fall for a boy from Ohio. Another scene, where Morticia is reflecting on the “hope” that she will die, the cast sing in refrain about the possible causes of death, “... mosquito bite, or title fight, or religious right!” The play sneaked these jabs in quickly; however I am not amused.

The play didn’t need these lines to be entertaining. It needed them because the left can’t help itself. Everything from the NFL to a local play can’t be left alone. Everything must be politicized. Every joke, a Republican as the punchline, or common sense the fool. Let me enjoy great art, like The Addams Family, in peace.
