Letter: Pot a solution to growing opioid problem

I have recently seen statements from local politicians regarding the closure of more marijuana stores in the Benton County area. It seems they are trying to outdo each other on not wanting these stores. I have been a medical patient for many years, and I support pot as an alternative to opioids. Research shows that pot lessens the need for opioid medications for almost any ailment.

I find it to be an effective medication, and its safer than both cigarettes and alcohol. I used to use hard opioids in large amounts before cannabis cut my dose to a fifth. A loved one recently fell ill with Parkinson's, and there are only a few remedies for this illness. Thca and cbd are two cannabinoids that treat tremors and do not cause any high. I also noticed that most Tri-City doctors do not allow marijuana even for medical use.

I have to ask if these people want more deaths from painkillers? A more sensible approach would be to appoint a council to investigate policy and implement changes. I hope to see more change in this area.
