Letter: ‘Yes’ vote on Link is a plus for Tri-Cities
There are mandated taxes that specifically pay for fire, police, ambulance, public safety, water and sewer, Trios Health, Port of Kennewick, Kennewick School District, etc.
The Link tax up for voter approval in November is not a property tax. That two-tenths of a percent will be added to any non-food item purchased in the City of Kennewick regardless of where the buyer resides, and it too be a mandated tax; i.e., it supports The Link and nothing else.
As citizens of Kennewick and this country, we pay taxes to fund city council wages along with 911 emergency services, national defense, road construction, infrastructure, social service programs, pensions for elderly, unemployment benefits, public transportation, public health, public education, energy, water and waste management, the justice system, etc.
Taxes are a must in order to support the quality of life we all enjoy in Kennewick. Every person on the Kennewick City Council has been there long enough to understand why taxes are needed and how they are legally allocated.
A yes vote for The Link provides more ice and will attract bigger and more conventions and quality entertainment for the young and old.
Linda Parish, Kennewick
