Letter: Dams good, hatred bad, and Depth is shallow
Your Depth section should be renamed Shallow.
The 6 August on salmon runs versus Snake River dams should use the correct units. Megawatts are capacity, power is megawatt-hours and should be basis for any comparison. Nine Mile Wind Farm has 95.9 megawatt capacity, but based on NREL projections will produce only 20 percent of that. When high pressure ridges loiter there is zero wind power. Hydro-power is available for emergencies and is paid for. There is no analysis for solar and wind replacement cost or economic losses if electric rates increase. There is only a vague promise electric grid shortages will be handled thru future technologies.
The 20 August main point was that intolerance, segregation and discrimination is normal and has to be un-learned. Czechoslovakia was communist with rigorous social controls for decades. Yet when Milosevic was assassinated, the Serbs and Croats tried to wipe out each other. The Suni and Shia factions have a blood feud that extends thousands of years. Much of Africa still has tribal warfare. This hatred is taught and has kept these countries in the last century. Have you every seen a toddler reject another toddler based on skin color, religion or sexual preference?
