Letter: Instead of tearing down statues, work to end racism, slavery

Racism, history, slavery and statues have been in the news for weeks. Now Hurricane Harvey and it’s devastation have dominated the news. And it all presents an opportunity by the liberal press to attack the president no matter what he does.

Racism and slavery was and is wrong! Nothing can change history, nor can removing statues smooth over the past. Slavery is existent in some countries in Africa today. I wonder who it was that sold their fellow blacks to the slave traders who landed on the African shores? What did they barter for?

I would point out that racism and slavery exist in today’s world. Instead of tearing down statues and creating more tension between people, let us work toward eliminating slavery wherever it exists.

Racism and slavery have their roots in the human heart, and man can’t change the human heart, so good luck with eliminating racism and slavery.
