Letter: Thanks to Newhouse for hearing concerns on poverty
With daily news reports of dissatisfaction with our government, I’m pleased that the 4th Congressional District has a member of Congress who is willing to sit down with the people he represents to discuss issues important to constituents. Thanks go to Representative Newhouse for meeting with the Tri-Cities Chapter of RESULTS during his summer break.
RESULTS is an organization of everyday people who use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to U.S. and global poverty. We met with Congressman Newhouse to urge his support for the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, which focuses on health and nutrition for expectant mothers and the very young in poor countries, and the Global Partnership for Education, a partnership dedicated to ensuring education for at-risk children worldwide.
We are also working to protect two U.S. poverty programs that are vital for the health and well being of struggling families in the 4th District: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Medicaid. These programs are springboards to self sufficiency for people living in poverty.
With such critical issues facing families here and across the world, it’s essential that our leaders work together and with the community to put solutions in place.
