Letter: Receiving a gift

I received a gift and I want to share with you. In our world filled with darkness and despair, I received the gift of hope I was not looking for and did not expect.

I developed an attitude thinking about the weekend filled with overwhelming obligations my husband, Skip, and I faced. I just wanted to find a haven of peace and solitude.

Friday night we attended T.J. Fields and Paige Sorensen’s wedding. The outdoor setting was beautiful. Our pastor at The Garden, T.J.’s father, Thom Fields conducted an emotional, at times funny, ceremony filled with love, faith and hope. We laughed and cried leaving filled with feelings of hope.

Saturday Fair Parade was another “had to” event. Skip was a parade entry as part of his campaign to be re-elected to the Port of Kennewick Commission. Pulling a wagon filled with flags I found it hard not to cry when children asked for not just any old flag, but the American flag. My heart was filled with hope and my attitude disappeared.

My gift to you is the gift of knowing hope can be found in the least expected places.

God bless you and God bless America!

Shannon Novakovich, Kennewick
