Letter: Remember to fill out form for free, reduced lunch

With the start of the 2017-18 school year, I would like to remind ALL families to fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch form. Besides providing a free or low-cost breakfast and/or lunch, statistics show that students who eat healthy food not only learn better, but retain more of what they’re taught. In addition, students who qualify can also receive benefits such as waivers to take the SAT or ACT college tests, a reduced price for books or tuition at CBC, and more.

Recent government changes allow many more families to enroll in this program. For example, a family of four qualifies with an annual income under $45,510; a family of five qualifies with an annual income under $53,243; and so on.

Whether your student is in elementary, middle or high school, a school breakfast or lunch is the best value around, and provides a nutritious, well-balanced alternative to fast food or high-calorie snacks. Free and Reduced Lunch forms will be sent home with all students to be returned the first week of school, or you can contact any school secretary for more information.
