Letter: Development has been a disaster for Ridgeline Drive
Kennewick’s Deputy Public Works Director, Bruce Mills, stated in an July 4 article that Ridgeline Drive is in need of emergency repairs because of excessive water infiltration from the June 26 thunderstorm.
Ridgeline was in good condition until Edward Rose starting tearing it up multiple times to bring water, sewer and electric lines in for the massive apartment complex being built on the south side of Ridgeline. He started doing so in 2012, and the road has been a roller coaster ever since with patches, dips, uneven lanes, etc. A “Motorcyclists, Use Extreme Caution” sign has been up for years. The only relatively smooth path is the turn lane!
We have been wondering for five years whose responsibility it is to return a city street or country road back to its original status after being torn up for development. Mr. Mills says the city doesn’t perform actual paving work, but, apparently, the city doesn’t hire anyone else to do it either until it becomes an emergency. Let’s hope the whole road from Canyon Ranch access to Clodfelter gets repaved — not just patched — again!
