Letter: Vote Regev for Richland council

In the recent story “Challengers for Richland council: City not listening,” incumbent council member Sandra Kent objected to the perception that the City Council is not listening to Richland voters, claiming that Robert’s Rules of Order pose a limitation to public discussion.

The problem is not Robert’s Rules, but rather a council that is out of touch with the public. In the wake of rising reports of local hate crimes, concerned Richland residents organized and urged the council for months to place an inclusion resolution on the agenda. The bylaws state any member of the council can place an item on the agenda, but nobody stepped forward. When asked about this matter at the Young Democrats candidate forum, Ms. Kent dismissed the question with the flippant response, “Shoulda. Coulda. Woulda.”

Richland needs new leadership willing to listen to the concerns of its residents. Shir Regev is the right person to bring an intelligent and thoughtful perspective to the city council. She has served honorably in our nation’s military and in the Peace Corps, and will treat the citizens of Richland with the respect they deserve.
