Letter: Don’t confuse Ecology Department with the facts
The letter from Craig Brown concerning the Longview coal terminal (TCH, May 14) really illustrates the basic attitude of the Washington State Department of Ecology — that would be, don’t bother us with the facts. Or as they put it to Mr. Brown when they were pressed with hard numbers concerning potential carbon emissions, “we don’t look at it that way.” Yeah, don’t confuse us with the facts.
The fact is that China is not going to stop burning coal, no matter what Ecology says. So China gets their coal somewhere else, we lose the commerce, and world carbon emissions are increased because their new coal supply is more than likely going to be much dirtier than what they can get from our coal fields.
But hey, don't confuse the Department of Ecology or the rest of the obstructionists with the facts, they don’t want to hear it ... Or rather “they don’t look at it that way.”
Bob Cummings, West Richland
