Letter: Why not a ‘sin tax’ on cigarettes and alcohol?

With all the talk about taxes on this, that and the other thing, why not a “sin tax” — those who smoke (will smoke anyhow) and those who drink (will probably drink anyhow) would pay the price and not affect those who do neither.

Gas tax? I would vote no. Everyone drives to work or to ballet lessons or football practice — take the kids here, there and everywhere.

A sin tax wouldn’t affect those who must go from here to there — only those who sin.
