Letter: Our government is not a pure democracy

We have a Republican form of government, not a pure democracy. Donald Trump won the Electoral College because he carried the votes in the Rust Belt states.

California has a population of 39.4 million. Hillary Clinton won over 7 million votes to Trump’s 3 million plus votes. That is why she had a popular vote edge.

This confirms the wisdom of the Founding Fathers that one or a few states could not dominate the elections.
