Letter: Stop wasting Pasco’s taxpayer dollars on grandstanding resolution
I believe in efficiently run government. Government should be focused on spending the fewest dollars possible to provide the services and infrastructure its people need. On Nov. 14, Councilman Bob Hoffmann showed again that he believes in a bigger role for the city of Pasco, promoting a resolution that will do nothing to improve the quality of life for our residents (“Pasco considers religious freedom resolution for Arlene’s Flowers case,” TCH, Nov. 16). In short, Mr. Hoffmann is wasting our taxpayer dollars.
In 2015, Mr. Hoffmann brought up a resolution to support a court case happening outside of our city. The council rightly chose to take no action. Now, he has resurrected the topic. District courts have already weighed in on the case, and the state Supreme Court will have its chance in the coming months.
I deeply respect Mr. Hoffmann’s right to speak his mind and defend what he sees as an attack on his faith. However, there is no place for using Pasco taxpayers’ money to make a statement far better suited as a letter to the editor. I hope Pasco’s City Council will stay true to its mission and vote against this grandstanding resolution as a matter of principle.
Craig Maloney, Pasco
