Letter: Where does all this Hillary hate come from?
Where does all this Hillary hate come from?
I think it started with Hillary’s comment in the 1990s about not staying home to bake cookies. I distinctly remember Republicans, especially Rush Limbaugh, taking issue with her statement. They thought she had offended housewives and the traditional family values that they hold dear. This holds up today, as she is the first female presidential nominee of a major party and still defying traditional gender roles.
Another reason Hillary was vilified was for trying to give the United States universal health care. Rush told people that she would destroy our health care system. That she would turn our country into something like a communist or socialist system and that cures for diseases wouldn’t be found.
After this, everything she did and said was screened through this irrational hate for her. It started with misogyny and the simple fact that she wasn’t a traditional first lady. She had a place in the White House where her husband tried to have her affect public policy and not be a hostess that had one issue to speak on, like Mrs. Reagan and drugs and Mrs. Obama with childhood obesity.
