Letter: Losing a resource as well as our quality of life

Is anyone at the Herald at all curious about what has happened to the steelhead counts? Where are the fish? No one is talking, and I fear something drastic has happened, and that no one wants to admit the possible cause.

Could you please assign someone to investigate and report on this subject? Please look at the comparisons between this year’s and last year’s returns over McNary Dam to date. The fish are not just late, they are not coming! As of Oct. 1, we were missing 83,169 fish. What could the possible causes be, temperature, river or ocean conditions?

For some people, fishing for steelhead is the pastime that provides quality of life, which needed to survive the dreary gray winter months.
