Letter: Rep. Newhouse fights hard for constituents

As the end of this administration comes near, America’s farming and ranching families are facing an onslaught of regulation that has the ability to severely impede our ability to operate. From environmental regulations to harmful legislation, Rep. Dan Newhouse has fought hard for interests of his constituents.

I raise cattle here in Washington, and I am proud of the cattle my family raises. One of the most economically devastating programs was the government-mandated Country-of-Origin-Labeling. I’m not saying labeling programs don’t work — just look at Double R Ranch right here in Washington or even Certified Angus Beef. These are voluntary marketing programs run by individuals to cater to consumer demand. That is why these programs are successful. Simply slapping on a label that says where this product was born, raised and slaughtered does not achieve the same result.

Marketing at its very core relies on the distinction of one product from another. Neither USDA, nor any other government agency, can make that distinction based on origin labeling.

COOL had its run and it failed, so thank you Rep. Newhouse for supporting full repeal and count on my support, and the support of rural Washington, in the upcoming election.
