Letter: Vote Duane Davidson for state treasurer

For the first time in 60 years, the next treasurer of Washington state will be a Republican. Although both candidates are from the same party, the candidates have very different views. Duane Davidson actually understands the roll of state treasurer.

Duane Davidson has demonstrated his expertise during his four terms as Benton County treasurer by receiving clean audits and successfully obtaining upgrades of bond ratings by conducting presentations. He is the president of the Washington State Association of County Treasurers.

His opponent, Michael Waite, has no political experience. Waite views the office as an investment opportunity. Davidson understands the separation of powers between the Legislature and the treasurer’s office, and plans to keep out of politics. Waite doesn’t understand this concept.

The role of treasurer is overseeing the state’s cash flow, debt, long-term investments and bond sales. Davidson is best qualified to do these things.

Davidson is endorsed by every Republican and Democrat county treasurer in the state, as well as many other trusted leaders. Join me in voting for Duane Davidson for Washington state treasurer.
