Letter: Vote Rick Jansons to make our community better

As a parent and teacher, I know this is a once-in-a-generation time for school reform in Washington. The Supreme Court has ruled our state must reform our educational system. We can and must do better.

Rick Jansons is a 15-year school board member and has the experience to help lead the Legislature in making these reforms. I’ve known Rick for years, and he listens and learns and works with everyone. I’ve watched him work to build consensus and work toward solutions which can be supported by all parties. The ability to be civil and work with others is something that’s missing in our political system. (I don’t think I need to provide any examples of that.) He has been endorsed by Republicans and Democrats; by business owners and organized labor; by the mayors of Kennewick, Richland and West Richland; by county and port commissioners; by teachers and parents.

This tells me that our community believes it’s time for a change. It’s time for new leadership. Please vote for Rick Jansons. I know he will work hard, listen to voters, and help make our community better.

Karrie Peterson, Richland
