Letter: Vote Gary Downing for state representative

I have had the pleasure of working with Gary Downing while volunteering for Friends of the Mid-Columbia Libraries. He was always available, courteous and willing to jump in wherever we needed him.

Gary is just as dedicated to promoting legislation to provide more funding for schools and other educational programs. I’ve seen him work many long days without a break, not only assisting with fresh ideas but encouraging others to take pride in their work.

Gary also has a deep concern for the homeless in Washington; these are not just adults and veterans, but more than 32,000 children now living under bridges, in cars, parks or with friends. To fund these projects, we need to return the lost tax revenues by increasing tax on the wealthy and corporations to a reasonable and fair level comparable to what our average citizen pays today.

I don’t know a lot about politics, but I do know people, and I for one support a person who has spent most of his entire life working for others and using his brain to find positive solutions to problems.

I will be voting for Gary Downing in November for the 16th Legislative District.
