Letter: Swanberg spent two years defending cold-blooded killer

It is very concerning to know that attorney Sam Swanberg, who is running for a Superior Court judge position, spent two years trying to exonerate a illegal immigrant who executed a Washington state trooper in the city of Pasco.

This man had been deported several times and had been mistakenly released from the Franklin County jail by the Border Patrol as he was waiting to be deported again. He shot the young trooper in the face, with a handgun, during a nighttime traffic stop, then got out of the vehicle he was driving and fired two more bullets into the head of the prostrate body of the trooper, making certain that he had killed him.

This trooper — whose name was Jim Saunders — had a wife, a little girl and a baby boy on the way.

There is and was absolutely no doubt about the guilt of the man who did this horrendous act. Mr. Swanberg fought this case for two years as he was being paid with taxpayer money, and from all appearances is proud of this fact. Do we really want to elect a judge who spent two years trying to keep a cold-blooded killer out of prison?
