Letter: National debt is biggest issue in presidential election

It seems to me that there is an awful lot of noise about which candidate you dislike the most. Polls show that the public believes that 70 percent of the people think that the country is headed in the wrong direction, yet we seem to ignore this warning and instead concentrate on trivia, such as what nasty things were said 11 years ago or how Hillary Clinton maligned her husband’s extramarital affairs. What should be guiding our decision is which candidate will be best for the country or our families’ future.

One very important thing that should be paramount in that consideration is the national debt. Right now we are almost $20 trillion in debt. We have record revenues, yet we are continuing to borrow approximately $500 billion per year. We simply cannot continue to borrow and print fiat money forever.

History is very clear on what happened to nations which took this route, i.e. massive inflation, destruction of the currency and then depression. If this happens it will wipe out our savings and impoverish our children. This is not being discussed by either candidate.

Think logically and clearly my friends. Do not be swayed by demagoguery nor emotions. Our country depends on your vote.
