I am always grateful for the wonderful thank yous that are shown to us veterans. But I was overwhelmed on Veterans Day this year, when I arrived home early to attempt to find my yard full of Cub Scouts from Troop 204, Cottonwood Ward, Richland Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

They had just raked and bagged all the leaves in my yard! I recently had shoulder surgery and with my husband’s long hours at work, we were unable to accomplish this mountainous task.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to these amazing young men and their leaders who took the time on their day off from school, not to play video games or watch TV, but to go to several veterans’ homes and perform such a wonderful service to express their gratitude to us in return for our service to our country.

Thank you Troop 204 for giving me the best Veterans Day gift I could have ever received.

Barb Finley, U.S. Army veteran, Richland
