The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Mid-Columbia, including the greater Tri-Cities area, for Thursday night into early Friday.

Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation in some areas, it said. Homeowners may want to cover tender new plants or bring potted plants indoors, particularly if you live in an outlying area.

Temperatures as low as 28 are expected, although not in the Tri-Cities, according to its warning. It should be several degrees warmer than the surrounding areas.

The temperature in Connell and Prosser is forecast to be 31.

Temperatures are expected to warm by the weekend.

Highs Saturday through Tuesday should be back in the 70s, with temperature as warm as 76 Sunday in the Tri-Cities. The low Sunday night could be as warm as 50, according to the weather service.

A slight to moderate chance of rain is forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass was back open Thursday morning after being closed for several hours on Wednesday evening because of multiple crashes on icy roads. All lanes were cleared and open by 8:15 p.m., said the Washington State Department of Transportation.
