Snow, freezing rain forecast for Tri-Cities. Roads may be coated with a layer of ice

Tri-Cities residents may want to consider having a night in on Saturday.

Another winter weather advisory has been issued for the Tri-Cities, this one for more snow followed by freezing rain that is forecast to coat roads with a layer of ice.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 60% chance of snow Saturday after 4 p.m., with less than a half inch of accumulation.

Snow could continue until 10 p.m. and then freezing rain is likely. After overnight lows as cold as 4 degrees in the past week due to arctic air, the low forecast for Saturday night will be much warmer at 30 degrees.

Less than a half inch of new snow is expected, but a tenth of an inch of ice accumulating on the ground is possible Saturday night, says the weather service.

Sunday rain could be mixed with freezing rain until 10 a.m. with little or no ice accumulation.

With daytime temperatures as warm as the high 30s on Sunday and low 40s on Washington’s Birthday, precipitation should fall as rain Sunday afternoon through the remainder of the three-day weekend.

However, snow is possible again Wednesday night. The early forecast says precipitation could fall as rain or snow.
