Colder weather coming. Here’s the snow outlook for Tri-Cities, I-84 OR and I-90 WA
Fresh snow again covered the Tri-Cities Friday morning, helping make up for a winter with no measurable snow until this week.
Less than half an inch of new snow had been reported in the Tri-Cities to the National Weather Service by 7 a.m.
But snow continued to fall past noon.
The National Weather Service forecast only a slight chance of snow for the rest of the day.
School was held as usual in most of the Tri-Cities, although one private school started classes on a two-hour delay.
A slight chance of snow is forecast for Saturday before 4 p.m.
Then no more snow is forecast for a few days. But overnight temperatures will be colder, dropping into the teens.
Monday and Tuesday night the low in the Tri-Cities is forecast at 14 degrees and Wednesday it could be 17.
Highs should drop from the mid 30s to 29 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
Snow could be back on Wednesday night, according to the weather service. It predicts a chance of snow Wednesday night and Thursday.
Travel forecast
Travelers heading east from the Tri-Cities through Oregon on Interstate 84 should be prepared for snow.
A winter storm warning is issued for Pendleton, Ore., through 4 p.m. Friday.
Saturday snow should be light with around an inch accumulation at the Blue Mountain summit near Meacham, Ore., about 30 miles east of Pendleton. But overnight Saturday 3 to 5 inches of new snow could accumulate, according to the weather service.
Travelers heading west from the Tri-Cities on Interstate 90 should be prepared for 2 to 4 inches of new snow accumulation Saturday at Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascade Mountains of Washington.
Less than 1 inch of snow is forecast there for Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday.
