Winter weather advisory issued for Tri-Cities. Freezing rain is a possibility

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Tri-Cities area as possible freezing rain is forecast for early Friday morning.

The highest risk of precipitation falling as freezing rain is from 4 to 7 a.m.

Any freezing rain should be light, with little or no ice accumulation expected, but drivers should still be prepared for slick roads and a possible slow commute Friday morning, according to the weather service.

The chance of precipitation in the Tri-Cities is 80% Thursday night, increasing to 90% on Friday.

Although the low overnight air temperature for the Tri-Cities is forecast to be right at freezing, the road temperatures will be below freezing, according to the weather service.

Its winter weather advisory lasts from 10 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday.

From the weekend through early next week, the weather service is looking at a possibility, but not a certainty, of snow for the Tri-Cities.

A slight chance of rain or snow is forecast Saturday morning followed by a slight chance of snow, possibly mixed with rain, Sunday in the Tri-Cities.

The weather service also forecasts a chance of snow Monday morning and Tuesday until midday.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Tri-Cities starting on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.
