Heavy snow forecast on Snoqualmie Pass. Travelers advised to postpone I-90 trips

The Washington state Department of Transportation is recommending that travelers delay trips across Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90 Friday.

Heavy snow is forecast, plus freezing fog and low wind chill values, according to the National Weather Service.

It has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Friday morning power outages made road cameras and electronic signs inoperable from Hyak to Stampede Pass southeast of Snoqualmie Pass.

There was snow on the Snoqualmie summit roadway in places, but chains were not required as of 10 a.m., according to the Department of Transportation.

However, the forecast for Friday calls for 4 to 8 inches of new snow to accumulate at the pass, with heavy snowfall making driving difficult at times.

The windchill value will continue to be low at 20 to 25.

Sunday the weather should clear, with partly sunny weather and no snow forecast.
