Dense fog and gloom again blanket Tri-Cities region. When will it lift?

The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for the Lower Columbia Basin region in Washington and surrounding Tri-Cities areas until noon on Tuesday.

The visibility in many places on Monday morning was a quarter mile or less, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions on area highways.

The advisory also warned of freezing fog in locations where temperatures could drop below freezing, creating the possibility of ice-slicked roadways.

The extended forecast calls temperatures to warm slightly into the low 50s by the end of the week. But clouds are probably going to hang around all week.

Patchy fog is expected on Tuesday with more rain likely on Wednesday or Thursday, showed early weather forecasts.

The next chance for Tri-Citians to get a glimpse of sunshine could be Saturday or Sunday, when partly sunny skies are possible.

Drivers planning to head over Snoqualmie Pass this week should plan for lots of rain and some mountain snow Thursday through the weekend, said forecasters.

All the rain and melting snow was expected to raise river levels in the Cascades, Eastern Oregon mountains and the Blue Mountain foothills on Monday then remain steady through Wednesday night.
