Windiest Tri-Cities day of 2022 to date forecast. Here’s what to expect

The Tri-Cities is forecast to have its windiest day of the year to date today.

A high wind warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for gusts as high as 55 mph in town.

Sustained speeds of 22 to 27 mph are expected to build to 29 to 34 mph by late morning. Wind speeds are expected to be highest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No rain is forecast for the Tri-Cities, so blowing dust is likely to be a problem.

Tuesday also is expected to be windy with gusts up to 39 mph forecast in the Tri-Cities.

The high wind warning extends across most of Eastern Washington, with difficult travel expected, especially for high profile vehicles.

The weather service is predicting widespread power outages and downed trees and power lines in the region. It recommends avoiding areas with trees.

The strongest gust was 70 mph near Kahlotus.
