Be prepared for icy roads: Snow and freezing rain is possible in Tri-Cities

Roads could be icy Sunday morning in the Tri-Cities area from predawn snow and freezing rain.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 30% chance of snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain, from about midnight to 7 a.m. Sunday.

The overnight low is expected to fall to 29 degrees. But after that, the week should be much warmer than the previous one and have several rainy days.

Lows should be well above freezing after Sunday, with lows from Monday through Wednesday in the 40s.

The forecast calls for a high of 50 on Sunday, rising to 63 on Tuesday, which should be the warmest day of the week.

Rain is most likely on Monday. A 60% chance of rain is forecast for Monday, 20% on Tuesday and 40% on Wednesday.

Travel forecast

Travelers should be prepared for snow on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascade Mountains.

The weather service predicted 3 to 5 inches of new snow Saturday night; 1 to 2 inches Sunday; and 3 to 5 inches Sunday night, with some possible mixed rain and snow before 2 a.m.

Travelers through the Blue Mountains on Interstate 84 in Oregon could see some snow Saturday night through Monday, but it should be light.

Then rain is forecast until Thursday and Friday, when a mix of rain and snow is possible.
