High winds snapped a pole at a Kennewick golf course, closing a section of road through Columbia Park.

The National Weather Service reported sustained winds of 32 mph that blew into the area starting shortly before 11 a.m. Friday.

The wind gusted as high as 59 mph at the Tri-Cities Airport and 65 mph two miles southeast of Kennewick, according to the weather service.

There were reports Friday afternoon of a tree fallen across 10th and Ainsworth avenues in Pasco and a bad crash at Highway 240 and Aaron Drive in Richland

While the breezy conditions came with warmer temperatures, the winds were enough to break one of the wooden poles holding up protective netting at the Columbia Park Golf Tri-Plex driving range.

The wood is precariously leaning over the road, show pictures at the course.

A section of Columbia Park Trail, also called Paul Parish Drive, between the Highway 240 entrance and Edison Street was closed until further notice, said city officials.

No pedestrians or bicyclists are allowed through the area, as well.

Repairs will be made when the weather permits.
