Another winter storm moving into Tri-Cities. Wet week ahead
Another winter storm system was expected to move into the Tri-Cities on Sunday bringing with it a chance of rain or snow early Monday morning through Friday.
Rain and snow were likely before 10 a.m. Monday, then a chance of rain, said National Weather Service forecasters.
Little or no snow accumulation was expected, though.
Highs in the low to mid 30s are forecast through the work week, with lows in the 20s.
The chance of rain or snow Monday is 70%, dropping to 60% on Tuesday and 30% on Wednesday, with more rain or snow is possible Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service.
Travelers returning to the Tri-Cities after the holiday were going to face heavy snow on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass from Sunday through this week.
A winter storm warning was issued with total snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches along the east slopes of the Washington Cascades. And winds could gust as high as 40 mph, according to the weather service.
It forecast 3-5 inches of new snow on Monday on the pass and 4-8 more on Tuesday.
Monday could be a hazardous travel day for people heading east from the Tri-Cities through the Blue Mountains on Interstate 84 through Oregon. On Monday 3-7 inches of snow was forecast at Meacham, Ore., about 30 miles east of Pendleton.
And snow also could be heavy on Thursday, according to the weather service.
