Some Tri-Cities flights canceled. Seattle is so snowy, planes being diverted to Pasco
The travel fallout from the impact of a rare cold snap in Western Washington is reaching the Tri-Cities Airport.
Last night Alaska Airlines diverted two flights to PSC, according to Tri-Cities Airport Director Buck Taft. He said they would continue to Seattle once the flights were given clearance.
Those diversions came as the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was forced to cancel 364 flights. Already this morning SeaTac has canceled more than 160 flights, according to data from FlightAware, which tracks airport cancellations and delays.
FlightAware also shows that the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco also saw seven cancellations on Sunday.
Of the canceled flights, four were SkyWest Airlines and three were Horizon Airlines. The flight cancellations included three canceled flights to SeaTac and one to Denver. Of the incoming flights canceled, two were from SeaTac and one from Salt Lake City.
Today’s cancellations as of 10 a.m. were one Horizon flight and four SkyWest flights. Canceled flights from PSC include three to SeaTac and one to Salt Lake. One flight from SeaTac to PSC was also canceled.
A spokesperson for SkyWest told the Herald their cancellations are due to a mix of bad weather and COVID-19 concerns.
“SkyWest teams are working to recover after weather impacting several hubs, as well as increased COVID cases and quarantines amongst crewmembers, have resulted in higher than normal flight cancels through the weekend and today. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.”
The passengers on the Alaska Air flights stayed overnight in the Tri-Cities.
