First freeze of fall is forecast for Tri-Cities area. Snow on I-90 and in the Blues

The first freeze warning of the fall has been issued for the Tri-Cities area for early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather service expected Monday night into Tuesday morning to be clear, with the low in the Tri-Cities right at freezing.

Widespread frost is forecast from 3 to 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Mid-Columbia of Eastern Washington.

The cold temperatures and frost could kill crops and other sensitive plants in parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures could fall to as low as 28 degrees at higher elevations in the Mid-Columbia of Eastern Washington, according to the weather service.

The weather service advised commuters to leave plenty of time to scrape frost off their windshields Tuesday morning.

It also is time to start winterizing outdoor faucets and exposed pipes, it said.

Snow is expected this week on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, with the snow level down to 3,500 feet on Tuesday night when a 60% chance of precipitation is forecast.

The chance of rain or snow continues through early Thursday morning.

Snow also was possible for Interstate 84 in the Blue Mountains Wednesday.
