Northwest heat wave: Triple-digit warning for Tri-Cities and beyond
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the second time this summer.
Highs could be in the triple digits Sunday through Tuesday in the Tri-Cities.
But don’t expect to get much relief by leaving town.
Hotter than usual weather for mid August is forecast across Washington state and Oregon.
In the Tri-Cities, highs of 103 are forecast for Sunday and Monday and 101 on Tuesday.
And it won’t cool down too much at night either. Lows are expected in the 70s Sunday and Monday night, dropping to 68 on Tuesday night.
A slight chance of thunderstorms is forecast for Sunday night.
Although the weather service is predicting temperatures that are “dangerously hot,” the heat is not expected to be as extreme as it was in the Tri-Cities at the end of July.
Then the temperature hit 113, according to the weather service.
On July 30, the high in Richland was 113, beating the previous high record of 105 for the day set in 1952. Daily records go back to 1944.
