Tri-Cities wakes up to dazzling sunrise lightning storm

Tri-Citians woke up to an early morning light show.

Thunder and lightning rolled through the region about 5 a.m. Saturday, igniting a few small grass fires.

And it had people out of bed early to capture video of some of the brilliant strikes amid clouds colored by the sunrise.

Reader Tina Duncan of Pasco shared her video with the Tri-City Herald.

The Tri-Cities area remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. Saturday.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast until then in the Tri-Cities, according to the National Weather Service.

Large hail and heavy downpours could bring precipitation amounts between a tenth to a quarter of an inch in the evening.

Sustained wind speeds of 11 to 13 mph are forecast during the day with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Wind speeds may increase to 21 to 28 mph after dark with gusts as high as 38 mph, according to the weather

service forecast.
