Freeze warning issued for Tri-Cities. Spring gardens and crops may suffer

The temperature could dip below freezing early Friday in the Tri-Cities under the clear skies, says the National Weather Service.

It has issued a freeze warning from 2 to 10 a.m. April 17 for much of the Mid-Columbia. The coldest temperatures are expected between 5 and 7 a.m.

In the Tri-Cities, the low could drop to 31 degrees, with colder weather in some outlying areas.

Residents are advised to protect tender plants and farmers are warned that some corps could be at risk.

Despite the cold nighttime temperatures, the temperature could reach 75 by late afternoon Friday.

Highs are forecast in the 70s through Wednesday, with Monday likely being the warmest day. Highs could reach 78 in the Tri-Cities.

Lows should be in the 40s Friday night and could be as warm as 50 degrees by Monday and Tuesday night.
